 About Imaginary Appalachia

Why we do what we do

Here at Imaginary Appalachia I  have determined there are far too many different definitions of the region and not a clear contrast of the region itself. I want to inform my readers of how the region should be looked at and the different ways we can interpret the area. I do what I do because I am not considered part of the region but we share the majority of the same customs that the region shares.

Imaginary Appalachia reasons

Below are multiple different maps taken from a variety of different sources helping me prove that nobody has the clear definition of Appalachia. I even asked a couple people there thoughts on where Appalachia was located and none were the same.

First interview map

I asked this individual to draw out on my computer where he believed Appalachia was located. He went deep into Georgia and did not go much further north than Pennsylvania.

Second interview map

The second person I interviewed was asked the same question as the first and did not go as far south or east but went further north continuing his map all the way into Maine.

Third map

The third is what the Appalachian regional commission considers Appalachia. We do not stand for this due to the fact there is not a reasonable explanation of how one county can be considered Appalachia and one not.

Fourth map

The fourth map is another example of different opinion of where the region is located helping prove the point nobody really knows where you can classify this region.
